By downloading, installing, or using the App, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App and uninstall it from your device.
1. Description of the Service
Scanyx is a utility app that allows you to:
- Scan documents using your device’s camera.
- Automatically detect document boundaries and straighten the image.
- Apply filters and improve scan quality.
- Create PDFs from one or multiple pages.
- Save and export scanned documents (locally on your device and, at your choice, via other apps or services such as email or cloud).
- Share PDFs by email, messaging apps, or other apps.
Permitted use: You may use the App for personal use and for your own work (e.g. scanning documents for your job, business paperwork, or studies). What is not permitted without our consent: reselling or redistributing the App, offering scanning or PDF-creation as a paid service to third parties using the App, or any use that competes with our offering or violates these Terms. Any use must comply with applicable law.
2. Changes to the Terms
We may change or supplement these Terms at any time. The current version will be published in the App and/or on our website (e.g. https://scanyx-pdf.com/). The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Your continued use of the App after changes are published means you accept the updated Terms. For substantial changes we will notify you in the App or by push notification. We recommend checking the Terms periodically.
3. Age and eligibility
You must be at least the age of majority in your jurisdiction (typically 18) to use the App, or between 13 and 17 with the consent of a parent or guardian. The App is not intended for anyone under 13. Parents and guardians are responsible for minors’ use of the App. We do not verify parental consent and are not responsible if a user has provided false information about their age or consent.
4. Privacy
Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes what data we collect, how we use it, and which third parties we share it with (including analytics, advertising, and in-app purchase processors). By using the App, you agree to that processing. If you do not agree with the Privacy Policy, you must stop using the App.
5. License and your content
5.1 License to use the App
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for personal use and for your own work on your device (as described in Section 1). The App’s source code, design, logos, text, and other materials are our (or our licensors’) intellectual property. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, decompile, or create derivative works from the App except where expressly allowed by law.
5.2 Your content
Documents, images, and PDFs you create, scan, or save with the App (“User Content”) remain yours. We do not claim ownership of your content. You are responsible for ensuring your content does not infringe third-party rights or violate law. We are not obliged to store or restore your content if you delete the App or its data.
6. Prohibited use
You must not use the App to:
- Break any law or encourage illegal activity.
- Infringe copyright, trademark, or other rights of others.
- Distribute illegal, offensive, defamatory, or harmful content.
- Circumvent technical restrictions in the App or in app stores.
- Resell, sublicense, or provide the App as a service to third parties without our consent.
- Reverse engineer or decompile the App (except where law expressly permits).
We may suspend or terminate your access and take other action under applicable law if you breach these Terms.
7. Availability and disclaimer
You need a compatible device and, for some features, internet access. We do not guarantee that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free.
The App and Service are provided “as is”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties (including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose). We do not guarantee the quality or accuracy of scans in all conditions.
8. Subscriptions and in-app purchases (Premium)
- Free vs Premium: Many features are free. Access to “Premium” features (e.g. ad-free experience, additional functionality) may require a paid subscription or one-time purchase.
- Free trial: Some subscription plans may offer a free trial (e.g. 3-day or 7-day). The exact trial length and conditions are shown in the App before you confirm. If you start a trial, your subscription will automatically convert to a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. You can cancel in the store’s subscription management (links below). Google Play requires that trial terms are clearly disclosed before purchase; we show them in the App.
- Who charges you: All payments are processed by Google Play. We do not collect or store your payment card or billing details.
- Refunds: Refunds are handled only by Google Play in accordance with its policies. We are not authorized to process refunds or chargebacks directly. If you want a refund, you must request it from the store: Google Play refunds.
- Auto-renewal: Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. To avoid being charged for the next period, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period (or trial) ends: Google Play – manage subscriptions.
- Restore purchases: You can restore Premium on a new device via the option in the App; this uses the store’s restore mechanism.
- Our role: We only receive from the store information needed to grant or restore Premium (e.g. purchase state, subscription status). We do not see or store your payment method.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or loss of profit or data, arising from your use or inability to use the App. Our total liability for any claim related to the App is limited to the amount you actually paid us (or the relevant app store) for the App or subscription in the 12 months before the claim (or the equivalent in local currency), unless the law requires otherwise.
Indemnity: You agree to indemnify us (and our affiliates, officers, and employees) from any claims, losses, or costs arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the App. In jurisdictions where you qualify as a consumer (e.g. EEA/UK), this indemnity may be limited or invalid to the extent that local law does not permit or treats such clauses as unfair in B2C contracts. Nothing in this section overrides your statutory rights.
10. Force majeure
We are not liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations under these Terms where such failure or delay results from circumstances beyond our reasonable control (e.g. natural disaster, war, terrorism, pandemic, government action, embargo, failure of third-party infrastructure, or internet or telecommunications outage). If such circumstances continue for an extended period, we may suspend or discontinue the Service to the extent reasonably necessary.
11. Third-party services and links
The App may use or link to third-party services (e.g. analytics, ads, app stores, cloud or sharing services). We do not control those parties or their policies. Your use of their services is subject to their terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their actions or content.
12. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the App, including for breach of these Terms. Where permitted by applicable law, we may do so with or without prior notice. Where your local law requires it (e.g. for consumers with an active paid subscription), we will comply with applicable notice or termination rules before ending your access. On termination, your right to use the App ends and you should uninstall it from your device. Cancellation or refund of a subscription you already paid for is governed by the app store’s rules (see Section 8).
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong SAR), without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App shall be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction, except where your local law gives you the right to bring proceedings in your country of residence (e.g. as a consumer in the EEA/UK) or otherwise requires a different forum.
If any part of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
